KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): The Malay Economic Action Council (MTEM) has blasted Petonas for allegedly "locking up and clearing out" Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad's office after he resigned as the national oil corporation's adviser.
MTEM's CEO Nizam Mahshar said this was done despite the fact that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has asked Mahathir to reconsider his resignation.
Nizam wants Petronas to come clean on its alleged treatment of the fomer prime minister.
"We were told by reliable sources within Petronas and from Tun Mahathir’s office about how Petronas humiliated Tun by clearing and locking his KLCC office within 24 hours of his resignation.
"Is this how a national oil company treat a man who was very instrumental at turning Petronas into a Fortune 500 company?
"Are they really glad to see him go?," said Nizam, who dubbed Petronas president Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas as an "ungrateful Tenggang".
Si Tenggang is a Malay legend depicting the story of a son who betrayed his single mother when he became a rich and powerful trading prince. For his arrogance in ignoring and kicking his mother off his ship when she came to him bringing his favourite childhood dish, the entire ship and crew were cursed to stone.
