KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): In typical Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad fashion, the former premier took a swipe at the alleged purchase of a second plane for the prime minister.
"Now the government is much richer, so maybe they should upgrade," he told reporters after appearing on RTM's 'Hello On Two', here this afternoon.
With the government striving to reduce the country's fiscal deficit and forced to defend reports of wastage of public funds, some quarters have criticised the purchase of the plane, nicknamed Perdana 2.
Earlier, the elderly statesman said he had inherited a 737 from his predecessor, although he later downgraded to a smaller plane after discovering that the former cost RM2 million a year to maintain.
